Kathy Olson
Yellow Room Lead Teacher and VGM Assistant Director
16 years at VGM
My name is Kathy Olson, and I am thrilled to be back for my sixteenth year at A Village Green Montessori as the lead teacher in the Yellow Room and Assistant Director. It’s going to be a wonderful school year! I am excited to see all the returning families and to get to know the new families joining VGM.
I received a BA in elementary education with a minor in early childhood education from St. Norbert College. My husband and I spent six years in the Pacific Northwest, where I taught second grade in Washington State before we moved back to the Midwest. I completed the Montessori assistant teacher training course at Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in 2011. After working with many dedicated and talented lead teachers at VGM, where I became fully immersed in the Montessori philosophy, I completed directress training and earned my credential at Seton Montessori Institute in 2020.
I live in Libertyville with my husband, David. We have three children: Matthew (26) is a civil engineer in Indianapolis, Katie (24) is a consultant in Chicago, and Nicholas (20) is a junior at the University of Illinois. I enjoy biking, hiking, reading, watching football, and spending time with family and friends.
I love the nurturing and supportive nature of the VGM community. I believe that children thrive in the Montessori classroom because of the respect given to individual differences and the emphasis on social graces. When children feel secure and loved, they flourish!
