Yoga

We don’t need to tell you that your child is growing up fast — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

That’s why children love our fun, creative yoga program that helps them release their extra energy in a welcoming environment — while also forming lifelong habits of focus and self-control.

In each Village Green yoga class, these simple yoga practices nurture both body and mind:

  • Breathing and visualization techniques help children to improve their relaxation, concentration, and imagination.

  • Yoga postures and basic stretches promote body awareness, flexibility, and strength.

As their bodies and minds develop, our young yogis find peace and joy in this popular program.

Jennifer Zelkovich, Yoga Instructor

My name is Jen Zelkovich, and I am your child’s yoga teacher at VGM. I have been teaching yoga for three years and practicing for over fifteen. I teach yoga to all ages: preschoolers, tweens, teens, and adults! I am a mom of two girls and one boy, ages 16, 14, and 5. My youngest is a kindergarten student at VGM. The previous yoga instructor at VGM played a role in my personal yoga practice and teaching journey. It is an honor that she thought of me to pass the torch and carry on this special work.

Yoga is a powerful practice for people of all ages because it strengthens the body, calms the mind, and nurtures emotional balance. For young children especially, yoga helps build coordination, focus, and confidence while teaching them how to relax and manage big feelings in healthy ways. It’s a fun, playful way to support both physical and emotional growth that stays with them for life!

When we couple yoga with a Montessori education, the philosophies naturally complement one another. Children learn similar principles on and off their yoga mat, such as mindfulness and respect for others. Every time they choose a work from the shelf in the classroom, children bring awareness to their space as they carefully set it up, focus their attention, and move with purpose. When they are finished, they gently roll up their rug the same way they would their yoga mat!

Yoga teaches us how to find quiet and focus even in the most challenging poses. While children (and adults) might giggle when falling out of a balance pose, over time, children gain self-awareness, improve their gross motor skills, and discover the amazing things their bodies are capable of!

I am overjoyed and honored to be with your children during their yoga special!
